If you want to change your today and propel your tomorrow to places you never thought possible, you have to begin asking yourself great questions. When you do this you’ll find that it’s easier to coast through life and just let things be. But if you want to make a difference, if you want to live out God’s mission in this world, if you want to be sure your life lives beyond your life, then great questions followed by action are vital.
The way you approach and live in today is a cumulative result of what you’ve experienced and believed up until now. If you want your today to change, you must begin asking new questions of yourself. If you want your life to matter a hundred years from now, you must live to the fullest today.

Change Your Today and Propel Your Tomorrow – Ask This Question
What will happen beyond my life because of my life?
If you want to be someone who has his/her presence felt in this world (in a good way, of course), then you must live today in light of the time you’ll be gone. In other words, you must have an eternally-minded perspective.
What you do today impacts tomorrow and beyond. It’s a fact. And it’s one that we, many times, wish weren’t true. Why? Because we know what it’s like to fail at living today in light of post-us.
When the Apostle Paul wrote his letter to the church in Colossae, he implored his readers to “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth” (Colossians 3:2). When I think about this question we’re talking about, I can’t help but think about that verse.
The interesting thing about that verse is that it’s smack dab in the middle of Paul describing the reality of a Christ follower’s life and the location of our Lord. We’ve been raised with Christ – who is seated at the right hand of God – and our old lives are gone, but our new lives are hidden with Christ in God (just give Colossians 3 a read). Our true home, then, is not here on earth, but it is in the place of eternity. So we should set our minds there!
I believe asking this question will help us set our minds there.[shareable]What you do today impacts tomorrow and beyond. It’s a fact.[/shareable]
What’s At Stake
We get one opportunity to live here on this earth; One period of time to either live on purpose or to live like most people – tossed this way and that way with no intentional direction. Failing to set our minds on things above (where Christ is) is what will propel us to a today that is just like our yesterday.
What will happen beyond my life because of my life?
What’s at stake here is:
- your children’s salvation
- a stranger’s salvation
- your salvation – will you begin to consider your eternal destination?
- your children’s willingness to live a life of adventure with Jesus (they need to see you do it first)
- inspiration to the masses – courageous people inspire people out of apathy and into purpose
- a life of purpose and meaning
We could certainly go on and identify more things that are at stake, but I think you get the idea. You see, your today may just change someone’s eternity. The weight of this hurts, doesn’t it?[shareable]Your today may just change someone’s eternity.[/shareable]
When we continually set our minds on things that are not above, we find that making a perspective pivot is difficult. Our minds become weak when we only think of today in light of today. We were made to make a difference. We were made for mission, for purpose. We were made for more than what we’ve lived for thus far.
After all, we were made for God.
What Now
Begin, right now, asking yourself the 1 question that will change your today and propel your tomorrow.
What will happen beyond my life because of my life?
And then begin answering that question by taking action. Asking the question isn’t enough – we must take action in light of what God’s word says and the impact we want to make in this world.
And let it be known that we were made to make an impact beyond what we think we can do. Christ followers have Christ dwelling in them, so let us not settle for small thinking, puny prayers, or passive difference making. Let us take action with the intention of making a big impact.
