Colossians 1:7-8
7 You learned this from Epaphras, our dearly loved fellow servant. He is a faithful minister of Christ on your behalf, 8 and he has told us about your love in the Spirit.
The church in Colossae learned about the gospel of King Jesus through the teaching and faithful service of a man named, Epaphras. He taught them, ministered to them, lived life with them, he was one of them. He gave them the most important message they had ever heard and would ever hear. He gave them the gospel.
Who is your Epaphras? Who has helped you understand the greatest, most important truth in the Universe? Who has taught you the gospel and has helped you appreciate God’s extravagant grace?
Do you have their name? Do you know who it is?
Think about what they have taught you. Think about the pivot points you experienced with God because of their service to God on your behalf. Maybe it was a conversation. Maybe it was a teaching. Maybe it was simply an observation. Maybe those pivot points happened in many different contexts. And it’s likely that you don’t only have one name in mind, but many.
Who is your Epaphras?
When you know who your Epaphras (or Epaphras-es) is, take a moment and write them a text or email and express your gratitude for their faithful service to God on your behalf. Encourage them and share how they have helped you live out the gospel and appreciate God’s grace.
And then consider what it might be like for you to be an Epaphras to someone else. If you’re a disciple of Jesus, you’re a missionary for Jesus. We’re all called to make disciples. You. Me. All of us.
Onward, saints.
