Like many of you, my family made the trip back home for the Christmas holiday. I grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana – the second largest city in Indiana. We moved to Cincinnati over 3 years ago. Every time we come back to Fort Wayne I realize how easy it is to get from one side of town to the other. My perspective has been changed as a result of living in Cincinnati.
Perspectives are so significant. Your perspective steers the way you live. Before I moved to Cincinnati it would be a frustrating experience to drive across town in Fort Wayne. But now it is rather easy. Maybe you have experienced a change in perspective towards something in your life as well. Maybe it was more significant than traffic.[Tweet “Your perspective steers the way you live.”]
More Significant Than Traffic
I have had many perspective changes in my life that have been more significant than traffic. For example, around 6 years ago my perspective began to change about Christianity, God, and church. I remember back in High School my friends and I would go to one of the churches in our neighborhood to play basketball on Sunday nights. To us it was simply an opportunity to play basketball indoors on a nice court. To them it was their youth group.
I don’t ever remember us talking about God on Sunday nights. If we did I was oblivious to it. My wife remembers going to church with friends growing up, but not having a clue of what was going on or what the purpose of church really was. I can relate to this a lot. For the few times I did go to church, I remember it being boring and pointless.
Everything has changed for us, though. Our perspectives have been changed towards Christianity, God, and church, and our lives have been changed as a result.
The Jesus Show
We now understand God to be more than enough for us. He is our reason for living. Giving Him honor and glory is our purpose here on earth. That is why we are here.
Jesus shows us that in hopeless times, we have real hope.
Jesus shows us that to be first is to be last.
Jesus shows us that it is more blessed to give than to receive.
Jesus shows us that the humble will be exalted.
Jesus shows us that leadership is about servanthood.
Jesus shows us that abundant life is found in submitting to Him.
I believe our perspectives can either propel us forward in life towards the life we were meant to live or they can hinder us and blind us to it. What areas of your life are you failing at or struggling at? Maybe you need to have a perspective change.
Here’s the truth: Jesus calls anyone and everyone to follow Him. You can come to Him however you are and He will change you from the inside out. You will be transformed by the renewal of your mind and your perspective will be forever changed (Romans 12:2).
In a real way, coming to Jesus is a lot about changing your perspective. No longer are you focused on “what’s in it for me,” but you are focused on “how can I glorify God in this.” No longer are you focused on stuff, but you are focused on Him. You see, if you change your perspective, you’ll change your life.
What kind of perspective changes have you experienced?
