Clarence Garrett, a.k.a. T.A.G. has released his fourth studio album entitled, T.A.G.onometry and it’s his best work yet.
As I was listening to T.A.G.onometry, the album that took him two and a half years to write, I wanted to know what T.A.G.’s heart was behind the music and the creative thread that wove everything together from his own perspective. Here’s what he said:
I was in a period in my life when I was super uncomfortable in my own skin, musically. I saw so much of the industry and my peers as well going in one direction as I was going in another. I felt very alone. I remember watching videos on social media of other rappers and honestly being very jealous, because it seemed like what they were doing was what everyone wanted, but it just wasn’t ME. As I was trying to figure out what direction to go with this new album, I had a good friend encourage me to be myself…and do all of it. Not to worry about what people thought, but be true to who I was. So this album is really an ode to all the various angles and influences that make me, me. Different, and thats okay. Weird, and that’s ok. Silly, and that’s ok. Me…and that’s OK. This album is me being free to be me.
As someone who has been blessed by knowing Clarence, I’m grateful that he decided to be him and let the chips fall where they may. Clarence is one of the most fun people I know. He is silly. He is different. And his music embodies that.
T.A.G.onometry is a must-listen!
My Favorite Songs on T.A.G.onometry
While T.A.G.onometry is an album that you can jam to without skipping a song, there are a few songs that are my favorites.
Doin’ Me // “Real talk plus hip-hop, and not just another rap actor.” God made each one of us to be who we are, not someone else.
Lose Control // My girls love to dance and this is one of those tracks that you can have a ton of fun with. T.A.G.’s music is great because it really reflects his personality. You’ll have tracks that are serious and you’ll have tracks that are all about having some fun. This is the latter. Love it!
Ups and Downs // “Sometimes this life is up. Sometimes it’s down.” Clarence knows the truth of that statement and for all of us who also know that to be true, this is a track of encouragement. Why? Because “Our God is with us through the ups, the downs.”
Puzzle Pieces // This might be my favorite track on the album. It hits hard and it’s full of the message of the entire album. “No piece unimportant.”
Want it Doe // I love songs that motivate and this song does just that. Beware: listening to Want it Doe might make you go and do that thing you want to do but you haven’t because you’re scared or doubting yourself. “Can’t stop, won’t stop,” LET’S GO!
“Life is a puzzle. You might be the last one in. But it don’t mean the piece don’t fit in.”
Buy T.A.G.Onometry
I highly, highly recommend you grab a copy of T.A.G.onometry. If hip-hop isn’t your thing, get a copy for someone you know. This album needs to be in the ears of teenagers, young adults, and… well, all of us.
