If someone were to ask you, what are your chances of going to heaven, what would be your answer? 30% – 50% – 75% – 100%
Where does your first reaction take you?
Can You Be Sure of Your Salvation?
Many Christian people would answer one of the first three options and not even consider the fourth. It is a sad reality that must be addressed. This really boils down to an insufficient view of God’s grace. What I would like to show you today is that if you are in Christ, you can be 100% sure that your salvation is secure.
Romans 4:25-5:2 (NIV)
25 He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification. 1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
The work of Jesus on the cross and his subsequent resurrection are the reasons why you can be sure of your salvation.
When you sin just once, your debt to God is of an infinite amount that you cannot repay at all. Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross paid the penalty that you deserve. Jesus’ resurrection defeated death and in turn, defeated sin all together.
God, in His grace has given you a gift that cannot be earned, it can only be accepted. The gift is accepted through faith. So, through faith, you are opening the gift and enjoying the benefits of it.
God’s grace is so awesome! He forgives your past sins, your present sins, and your future sins. You do not have to do good things in order to earn your salvation. God has done what you cannot. He lived a life that was justified before the Father.
The apostle Peter says, we are “protected by the power of God through faith” (1 Peter 1:5). The beautiful thing in all of this is that you are now no longer an enemy of God, but you have been redeemed into a relationship with Him where He calls you His friend and His child (James 2:23; 1 John 3:1).
Knowing that you are justified by faith is HUGE in having real confidence and assurance in your salvation, thus making your answer be 100% sure that you are headed to heaven. This means that your salvation is not dependent upon how good you are. It is dependent upon how good God’s grace is. Praise God for that!
